Someone in your family would love to hear more about your life. Tellby is a calm voice conversation that helps you tell one story at a time. You talk. Tellby listens and asks gentle follow-up questions. Afterwards, you can review the story before deciding whether anyone else receives it.
Saying you would like to hear more is not consent to be recorded. We explain everything again before a session begins.
Why your family invited you
Your family values the experiences only you can describe: ordinary places, small details, people you remember and moments that shaped your life. This invitation is their way of asking, not deciding for you.

What happens before, during and after

What Tellby is
Tellby uses a voice interviewer and AI-assisted tools to ask follow-up questions and prepare a draft story from the conversation.
During the early research pilot, a researcher may guide or manually support parts of the process. Before anything begins, we tell you what will be recorded, saved, processed and shared, and whether a researcher will be present or listening.
What Tellby is not
- A memory test
- A test of your technology skills
- A request to write a book
- A public social-media interview
- Permission to copy or imitate your voice
- A commitment beyond one conversation
What is recorded, processed and saved
These are the current facts. We explain them again before a session, and you can ask questions before deciding.
Recording and transcript
After you consent, Tellby records your voice and writes down what was said. The original recording remains the trusted source.
AI-assisted tools
OpenAI supports the live conversation and transcript. AI is then used to help turn the transcript into story material and readable draft wording.
Pilot-team access
The pilot team may use the recording and transcript to prepare your draft. Your family inviter receives it only after you review it and choose to share it.
Storage and deletion
The app data and recordings are kept for as long as the family wants Tellby to hold them. Recording-deletion requests use a two-step confirmation with you and the organiser.
Tellby does not sell your data or use family recordings to train general-purpose AI models. Joining the pilot gives no permission to use your name, face, voice or story in advertising. Public use would need a separate request and a separate yes. Read the full Privacy policy or email [email protected].
What you need
- A quiet 10–15 minutes where you feel comfortable
- A phone, tablet or computer — with setup help if you want it
- One story you feel comfortable telling; you do not need to prepare it in advance
- A little time afterwards to review the result
You do not need to download an app, write anything long, or decide on a story in advance.
Questions people often ask
What if I cannot remember every date or name?
That is fine. This is a conversation, not a memory test. You can say what you remember and correct the draft afterwards.
What if a question makes me uncomfortable?
Skip it, pause, or stop. You never need to explain, and you can ask Tellby not to raise a topic again.
Will AI replace my voice?
No. The original recording remains the trusted source. Tellby does not treat joining this pilot as permission to copy or imitate your voice.
Can my family choose the story for me?
They can suggest an idea, but you choose what to talk about, what to correct and whether the result is sent to them.
Do I have to decide now?
No. Asking to hear more only lets us answer your questions. Recording consent is a separate choice immediately before a session.
